Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed auto insurance reform bills into law this morning during the Mackinac Policy Conference. Withmer, joined by Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and other legislative leaders, says the law will lower insurance bills across the state – especially in the City of Detroit. The bill gives residents the choice to opt in or opt out of personal injury protection in their auto insurance plans. That could reduce rates anywhere between a $100 and $1000 depending on what plan motorists choose. Currently all Michigan residents are required to buy auto insurance plans that include unlimited personal injury protection.
