A body has been discovered in the St. Clair River off Russel Island near Algonac. According to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s office, the body is believed to be that of 21 year old Riley Gleason who went missing after swimming in the river near St. Clair this past Friday night. Sheriff Tim Donnellon says the body was spotted by the operator of an ultralight aircraft around 8am Thursday morning. The aircraft was rented by a relative of Gleason. The body has since been turned over to the St. Clair County Medical Examiner. Gleason, of East China Township, was reported missing the evening of July 12th after entering the river from a vessel just north of the boardwalk in St. Clair. He reportedly went for a swim but struggled with the current of the river. Other occupants of the boat attempted to rescue him but were unsuccessful. Crews from the St. Clair County Dive Team and several other agencies have been looking for Gleason’s body for the better part of a week.
