Port Huron City Council has approved a new employment agreement with City Manager James Freed. The revised agreement calls for Freed to be paid approximately$150,000 annually, an increase of about 7-percent. The contract includes up to 9 months of severance pay and allowances for personal technology and vehicle expenses. The revised agreement is open ended and can be terminated by either Freed or City Council with 30 day’s prior notice.

“He (Freed) has done a great job for us over the past seven years,” Mayor Pauline Repp told WPHM. “He certainly deserves to have a continuation of his contract and increase in his pay scale.”

Also during Monday night’s city council meeting, members approved the 2021-22 fiscal year budgets for the City of Port Huron and Downtown Development Authority. Repp says the budget is pretty much on par from last year, with no significant cuts or additions. She says the city is still working to determine what to do with its $10 million in federal COIVD-19 relief money, with Repp saying she would like to see it used to make up for differed building maintenance over the past decades.
