There will be no parade this year in Port Huron in honor of Memorial Day, however organizers will still be gathering to honor local fallen soldiers. The ceremony will be held at the eternal flame monument in Pine Grove Park starting at noon. Dan Crocker, former VFW State Director of Veterans Services tells WPHM he has been researching the names of those inscribed on the monument for years now and has discovered new individuals who’s names will be added to the monument.

“When the research began it was just to find the initial names that were already on the tablet and in doing so, we came across other names,” said Crocker. “It was just a stroke of luck to have that aspect happen, and as more of it happened, the more research we did.”

Due Crocker’s diligence, 27 additional individuals were discovered last year 8 more were discovered this year. Because the COIVD-19 pandemic, there was not a ceremony held last year so Monday’s event will mark the first time those new names will be read aloud at Pine Grove Park.
