It’s new life for a block of buildings along Quay Street and the Black River in Port Huron. At this week’s Port Huron City Council Meeting, and Obsolete Property Rehabilitation Act District was approved for Gene Harrison, owner of Wings Etcetera, for two properties  adjacent to the restaurant at 402 Quay Street. Port Huron Mayor Pauline Repp speaking to our Paul Miller Tuesday morning says the designation paves the way for a major construction project.

“He’s going to put several million dollars into it,” Repp said, referencing Harrison. “It’s going to have lofts, restaurants, a speakeasy… he’s redoing the whole area, it’s very exciting.”

The designation of the property as an OPRA District means taxes will be based on the previous year’s taxable value taxes for a period of 9 years but not to exceed 12. Also this week, city council approved free admission to several historical sites in the city as well as free general admission to the Sanborn and Court Street public pools for the next year.
