The City of Port Huron has received approval from the state to dredge the entry to the Black River Canal. City Manager James Freed says says the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy has approved the removal of up to 5,000 cubic yards of sediment from the entrance of the canal at Lake Huron. The entrance to the canal currently is not passable for many watercraft and Freed says contractors are expected to begin work as soon as possible.
