Local authorities say they are “disappointed” in the “lack of notification and cooperation” by U.S. Marshals after a missing St. Clair County girl was found in a Port Huron home. The case dates back to September of 2021 when Sheriff Mat King says the now 14 year old ran away from her foster parent’s home in Greenwood Township. St. Clair County Sheriff’s Deputes, along with Port Huron and Marysville Police investigated several leads over the past year regarding the girl’s whereabouts. It was believed she was with her biological mother who had been hiding out at various locations in the county.

A tip recently received by a statewide clearing house indicated that he girl may have become pregnant, which met the criteria for state and federal authorities to get involved and execute a search warrant. The girl was found by U.S. Marshals Tuesday, and her mother is potentially facing charges. Sheriff Mat King says he is happy the girl has been reunited with family, but had local authorities been involved in, they could have helped collect evidence of other potential crimes committed against the missing girl.
