A popular Port Huron restaurant is now under new ownership. Announced yesterday morning here on 1380 WPHM, Cavis Grill at 401 Quay Street has been sold to a new partnership headed up by Chris Smith. Nick Cavis, who has owned and operated the restaurant for the better part of two decades and who’s father established Cavis Grill in 1960 says the decision to sell was an emotional one, but he believes it is what’s best for the business and downtown. “We’ve literally had up to four generations of family that has come in there,” said Cavis. “It’s very bittersweet for me to move on… this community has meant everything to my family.” New owner Chris Smith tells WPHM he plans to do some remodeling of the restaurant and seek a liquor license. “We’ll make some changes, we’ll put some money into it and renovate some areas,” said Smith. “We’re still going to do breakfast, might change the menu a bit for lunch and dinner.” Smith adds that a name change could be on the horizon for the restaurant. Cavis Grill was established in 1960 by Greek immigrant George Cavis and had been run by his family ever since.
