Ice interrupts Harsens Island ferry service

Ice jams on the St. Clair River have once again hauled ferry service between Algonac and Harsens Island. According to Champion’s Auto Ferry, service is expected to be restored Thursday morning depending on weather conditions. A flood warning remains in effect for southern St. Clair County for areas along the St. Clair River due to flooding. Several roads and properties are under water due to the ice jam. Champion’s Auto Ferry has resumed service between Algonac and Harsens Island. According to a recorded message, the ferry reopened to traffic Tuesday morning. However Champion’s is advising the public that they could close again at any time if the ice conditions worsen.
