The St. Clair County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management t is providing an update to the flooding situation on the St. Clair River. Officials say the water level has been holding steady over the past 24 hours and that an “ice bridge” is forming in Lower Lake Huron, stopping additional ice chunks from flowing downriver. Ice breaking operations in the lower part of the river are still under way.

Homeowners along the St. Clair River are cleaning up in the aftermath of last week’s floods. St. Clair County deputy emergency manager Mark White tells WPHM the worst hit areas are located in East China Township between St. Clair and Marine City. White says most of the water damage has been concentrated in the Point Drive area. If your property was damaged as a result of the floods, white encourages you to submit a report at www.bereadystclaircounty.org.

White says water levels are receding thanks to ice breaking efforts however he expects it to be a “long term operation” with “no quick resolution.” The National Weather Service has extended their flood warning for communities along the St. Clair River in St. Clair County now until 3pm Sunday. Forecasters say the level of the river is likely to fluctuate between minor flooding and major flooding depending on the ice situation.
