The City of Marysville had a second reading and enactment of a ordinance amendment Monday that bans the keeping of farm animals within the city limits. On a four to two vote, council members approved the language that would limit the animals allowed in the city to dogs, cats, and other animals classified as pets. City Manager Randy Fernandez tells WPHM the revised ordinance comes after his office received complaints specifically about chickens in some of the city’s neighborhoods.

“It was not specifically clear in writing,” said Frendandez about whether or not chickens were allowed in the city limits. “This (amendment) clears it up, and we’ll look at the two or three residents now on a case by case basis.”

Also last night City Council members had a follow up discussion concerning the Marysville Museum building in Marysville Park. Fernandez says the Port Huron Museum is the process of cataloging in the museum’s inventory and that it’s still unknown at this time what will happen to the building. Some of the uses suggested at last night’s meeting included repurposing the building as an event space much like the former fire hall turned recreation center, renting it to another entity, or demolishing the structure.
