It’s big news for the Michigan craft beer industry. Bell’s Brewery founder Larry Bell has announced that he’s selling the company to Lion, an Australian-based brewer, which also owns New Belgium Brewery in Colorado. Bells makes the popular Oberon and Two-hearted craft beers. The deal would put the company under the same ownership as the popular Fat Tire brand. Larry Bell founded the brewery in 1985 in Kalamazoo. Bells had been the presenting sponsor of the Bayview Yacht Club Port Huron to Mackinac Race for 11 years.  Also included in the deal with Lion is Upper Hand Brewery in Escanaba. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
