Local coronavirus cases, deaths decline

It’s a decline in the number of local COVID-19 cases over the past week in St. Clair County. According to the health department, there were 1600 new COVID-19 cases for the week ending Friday, January 28th. That’s an average of 230 cases per day, down from 300 cases per day the week prior. There were 13 deaths last week in the county, down from 25 the week before. St. Clair County’s testing positivity rate also declined from 37.7% the previous week to 33.2% this past week. The county’s vaccination rate remains just above the 55%mark.
