UPDATE: Increased truck traffic at the Blue Water Bridge is causing significant backups on the American side of the border. Trucks are backed up as far as Marysville on I-94 and Wadhams on I-69. The St. Clair County Sheriff’s office says travelers should use surface streets to avoid the backup.

Protests against COVID-19 vaccination requirements closing the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit. The protests have spread from the Canadian capital, Ottawa, where truck drivers set up camp 12 days ago to protest a vaccine mandate for cross-border travel. Since then, thousands of others have joined them, demanding an end to all restrictions. The Canada Border Services Agency has issued a statement directing passenger vehicles to use the Detroit – Windsor tunnel and commercial vehicles to use the Blue Water Bridge as an alternative to the Ambassador Bridge.
