Decommissioned Ontario power plant imploded

It’s a significant change to the landscape along the St. Clair River. Early Saturday morning, Ontario Power Generation imploded the Lambton Generation Station located on the opposite side of the river from East China Township. According to the government owned utility, the plant’s implosion was part of their coal closure program. Lambton Generating Plant was decommissioned in 2017 and the process of demolishing it began in 2020. Saturday’s implosion brought down the remaining boiler house structures as well as the power plant’s three smokestacks which were over 550 feet tall each.
