Local police say they are preparing for any disruptions that may result from Saturday’s planned demonstrations near the Blue Water Bridge. A local “Freedom Convoy” is expedited to show their support today for protesting Canadian truck drivers who closed the Ambassador Bridge this week. According to Lieutenant Nick Godwin of the Port Huron Police Department, a few demonstrators have taken to the Thomas Edison Parkway as of Noon Saturday but have so far not disrupted the flow of traffic on the parkway or on the bridge.

Long lines of trucks returned to area interstates Friday evening, at one point extending miles past the I-69/I-94 interchanges. As of Saturday morning, traffic is moving much more more freely. Wait times heading east into Canada are less than 15 minutes for cars and about an hour for commercial vehicles at Blue Water Bridge. At the Ambassador Bridge in Windsor, police have received court authority to start moving protesting vehicles blocking access to the bridge.
