Get ready to see some those orange barrels in Downtown Port Huron again this summer. As part of a multi year project to resurface downtown streets, the city’s attention turning to a section of roadway long overdue for a makeover. Mayor Pauline Repp tells WPHM a contract has been awarded for the total reconstruction of Fort Street between Quay and Beers downtown. That will include new water and sewer lines, removal of the boulevard, and additional angle parking spots.

Repp says as part of that project, a section of city street near Kiefer park will also be totally removed, and replaced with a green space. “The space right to the south of the Chase Bank building it’s a very unused road so we’re going to take it out,” said Repp. “It’ll be great for summer programs like Rockin’ the Rivers.” The total cost of that project is $2.2 million and will be performed by Raymond Excavating and work is expected to begin this Spring.
