Light winds resulting in a slower than average race this year for Bayview Yacht Club’s 98th Port Huron to Mackinac Race. Much of the fleet has yet to finish with the first boats on the shorter shore course arriving to the island late Sunday night. Bayview Yacht Club’s Ted Everingham says the first boats on the longer Cove Island course are expected to finish between 10 and 11am Monday

Taking home the honors of being first to the island this year is “Hoodlum” of the Bayiew Yacht Club, which also finished first in Class R. Second to the island was “nosurpise”, skippered by Scott Sellers and crewed by only he and his 14 year old daughter Meritt Sellers.

Two Port Huron Yacht Club boats were neck-and-neck as they approach the finish line. The first Port Huron boat to finish was “Major Detail” which completed the race only four seconds ahead of “Rowdy”. Bill Vogan’s “Major Detail” will take home a third place burgee for class I.  Of the 173 participating boats in this year’s race, only one has withdrawn.
