A man is recovering from critical injuries after striking a tree Saturday morning in St. Clair County’s Berlin Township. According to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department, the single vehicle crash was reported shortly after 1:30am Saturday on Hough Road west of Holmes Road south of Capac. A Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by a 22 year old Almont Area man had left the roadway and struck a tree, causing him to be trapped inside the vehicle. Berlin Township fire and rescue crews extricated him from the truck and he was taken to a Lapeer hospital for treatment of critical injuries. Sheriff’s deputies say speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
