Museum building to soon host overnight guests

Renovation work is wrapping up inside the former museum building in Marysville Park. Marysville Council Members toured the building Monday night, which is set to become a five-unit vacation rental home. The project is the result of a private-public partnership with local developer Korey Eagen.

Visitors to the park will notice a new 2800 square foot wrap-around porch, which provides views of the band shell in the park and of the St. Clair River. One of the most iconic features of the building is also being repurposed to provide an even greater view of the area.

“The cupola will say,” says Eagen. “At one time we think there was a bell in there, the bell was removed, and a fan system was installed. It didn’t work any more when we got here so it was removed and we’re going to put glass around it (the cupola) and will light it up for the seasons.”

Marysville Mayor Kathy Hayman says once complete, the building could be rented out for everything from family vacations to cooperate events.

“Family reunions, class reunions… we have so many companies that are headquartered outside of Marysville that have traveling employees,” said Hayman. “This is just going to be a quality overnight option for many different types of people.”

Each unit will be quipped with their own kitchen and bath. The entire building will be covered in new blue siding with white trim, paying homage to Marysville’s school colors.

Eagen hopes to finish work on the building by the end of October. The City of Marysville allocated up to $250,000  in the current fiscal year’s budget to assist with renovations, with the city retaining ownership. Future revenue from the five vacation rental units would then be split between Eagen and the city.
