Local State Senator Dan Lauwers is speaking out about Governor Whitmer’s Healthy Climate Plan which would call for 100% carbon-neutral energy by 2050. Lauwers, who previously chaired the Senate Energy and Technology committee, shares his concerns with our Paul Miller about a Democratic sponsored set of bills working their way through the legislature.

“I think we’re dealing more to do with presidential politics for our Governor, her aspirations, than sound energy policy for our state,” said Lauwers.

Lauwers says the bills, which are moving through the State House and Senate, could be passed as soon as this week. He claims the bills would take away decision making power from local units of government and give more power to the Michigan Public Service Commission. Lauwers also spoke out against the current UAW strike, saying he hopes the automakers and the union come to a quick resolution before more jobs in his district, which includes St. Clair County and the Thumb, are affected.
