Students and faculty at Port Huron Northern are being given the day off today to mourn the loss of long-time teacher, Ashley Nisbett, who passed away yesterday evening. Mrs. Nisbett, or Mrs. V. as she was known to her past students, was struck by a drunk driver on Friday morning and had undergone multiple surgeries in the days since in hopes of repairing the severe damage caused in the crash. The school has planned several events that would help financially support the Nisbett family as well as promote safe driving and spread acts of kindness in Mrs. Nisbett’s honor.

At this time, Northern’s administration plans to resume school on Thursday. Students who are enrolled in TEC courses are able to attend today, provided they have their own transportation.
