Around 7:30 Tuesday evening Port Huron Police responded to a call about a domestic assault at Desmond Landing. Upon arrival the suspect, 27-year-old Malik Lewis, was spotted fleeing on foot down by the shore. One officer followed the suspect while another checked on the victim. During the pursuit, Lewis was allegedly able to drag the officer into the water and hold him under for several seconds. He eventually let his grip of the officer go as backup arrived and, after another short foot chase, was apprehended.

Lewis, a third-time offender, has been arraigned on charges of domestic violence, assaulting a police officer, and assault with intent to murder. He is currently being housed at the St. Clair County Jail.
