After record-high gas prices throughout the month of March, St. Clair County motorists are seeing an average of $3.57 this morning, ten cents less than last week’s 2024 high. Pump prices across the state vary from gas stations in Jackson asking $3.68 per gallon, all the way to Traverse City where drivers are paying $3.42 right now. Following the U.S. Federal Reserve’s announcement last week that interest rates will remain steady through the rest of the year, crude oil prices have slowly began to decline. In addition, the Energy Information Administration reports U.S. fuel demand is down slightly from 9.4 million barrels per day, to 8.81 million. Analysts say if the trend continues, gas prices could be on their way down more as the week continues.
