With the deadline to register as a candidate on August’s primary ballot now past, the race to represent the Port Huron area in the state legislature features a wide spread of candidates from both political parties.

On the Republican side of the ticket there are a total of five candidates. They include Jorja Baldwin, Gary Eisen, Ryan Maxon, Joseph Pavlov, and Dan Geiersbach. Three Democrats are also seeking their party’s nomination, including John Anter, Matthew Castillo, and Ken Heuvelman. Jordan Epperson, who previously filed to run as Republican, has since withdrawn from the race.

The wide slate of candidates comes following incumbent Republican Andrew Beeler’s announcement that he will not seek another term in office. Michigan’s 64th State House District includes the City of Port Huron and surrounding communities in St. Clair County and Worth Township in Sanilac County.
