The Fort Gratiot Red Lobster is one of over fifty locations across the country the restaurant chain is abruptly closing down. A sign on the door simply reading “This location is closed. We look forward to serving you at another Red Lobster location in the future.” Online auctions for furniture and kitchen equipment began on Monday, while some staff members reportedly weren’t even aware they were out of a job yet. The company is also reportedly considering filing for bankruptcy protection amid the mass closures. The sudden move however is prompting local restaurants such as the Dorsey House to make offers on social media of hiring displaced Red Lobster staff. According to Red Lobster’s website, several locations are still open for business in the Metro Detroit Area, including the Hall Road, Rochester Hills, and Warren locations.
