A Chinese man will be standing trial in St. Clair County following an arrest in California this year in connection to a local case of criminal sexual conduct. Zhijie Wang, a 56 year old Chinese National who was living in California, has been arraigned on third degree criminal sexual conduct charges stemming from a 2021 investigation by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office. In January of this year, detectives were assisted by the Department of Homeland Security in locating the suspect and an extradition warrant was sought to bring the man back to St. Clair County to face charges. He was taken into custody in May at the Los Angeles International Airport and was lodged in a California Jail. The suspect was arraigned last week and booked in the St. Clair County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
