Sailboats are crossing the finish line up at Mackinac Island as the 100th Bayview Mackinac Race begins to wind down. The race got off to a slow start, being delayed nearly two hours Saturday due to lack of wind on lower Lake Huron. Wind conditions changed later in the day, giving a boost to some of the larger and faster boats in the race. The first to cross the finish line was Wizard in Class A shortly after 1pm Sunday. The leader for much of the race was Maverick, who also won the Chicago to Mackinac Race, but had to withdraw due to a mast failure.

Some local boats taking home burgees include Shape in Class L finishing first, Rowdy in Class F, finishing second, 50/50 will finish third in class J, and in class Q Trav’ler taking first and Saminna taking third. Rascal was the last boat to the island, dubbed the “Pickle Boat” and features an entire crew of all Mackinac Island residents. They finished just after 7am Tuesday morning, some 65 hours after setting sail from Port Huron.
