On Thursday morning, Port Huron City Manager James Freed was named one of two finalists to be the next administrator of Ottawa County. However just a few hours later, Freed withdrew himself from the search process. The city manager of ten years has not publicly commented as to why he applied for the West Michigan job, but has shared a statement with the media regarding his change of heart. “This is where we want to raise our two little girls,” Freed stated. “No raise or promotion can change that fact.” Freed is expected to provide more clarification during a press conference scheduled for 9am Friday morning. The remaining candidate for Ottawa County administrator is Sparta village manager for James Lower, who is expected to be formally named to the position Monday.
