College students in the Blue Water Area could soon have more options to earn advanced degrees without leaving Port Huron.
St. Clair County Community College is working with Saginaw Valley State University to explore offering bachelor’s and master’s degree programs on the SC4 campus.
Leaders from SVSU visited Port Huron last week, meeting with SC4 administrators, faculty, and staff to discuss collaboration opportunities that could benefit local students and the surrounding region.
According to college officials, discussions focused on SC4’s capacity, institutional readiness, and community support for offering additional university level programs locally.
SC4 President Kirk Kramer said the visit highlighted strong potential for a partnership that would expand educational pathways for students seeking advanced degrees close to home.
SVSU President George Grant Jr. said he sees significant opportunity to increase degree offerings in St. Clair County, noting a shared commitment between the two institutions would serve the entire community.
Officials say the next step is drafting a memorandum of understanding outlining shared goals and the framework for collaboration. A joint announcement on the potential partnership is expected later this winter semester.
