The Michigan budget battle has to be worked out in the next three weeks or there could be a government shutdown. Governor Whitmer this week is expected to provide an update on the 2020 budget and negotiations with legislative leaders. The Governor wasn’t happy that Republican leadership announced last week that the legislature would take action on a new budget without a deal on funding road repairs. She was scheduled to hold a press conference this morning but it has since been postponed. Whitmer, who is pushing a 45-cent a gallon gas tax increase to raise billions of dollars to pay for road work, says the Republicans’ action on the budget without input from the executive office will hurt schools, families and business.
