Two additional cases of Eastern Equine Encephalitis have been confirmed in animals in Genessee and Lapeer Counties. Add that to the confirmed seven human cases of E.E.E. in several southwestern Michigan counties. So far, there have been two fatalities in Michigan from the mosquito-born disease. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services strongly suggests organizations to postpone or cancel outdoor activities occurring at or after dusk, especially activities that involve children in the affected areas. Additionally, residents are urged to wear long sleeved shirts and apply mosquito repellents whenever outside at night. E.E.E. symptoms include high fever, muscle pain, body aches, seizures, and brain swelling.
