A backlog in coronavirus test reporting is responsible for a significant increase in confirmed cases across the state Thursday. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says three commercial labs were reporting confirmed cases manually to state health officials, which led to a backlog. Those three labs have now converted to electronic reporting. Nearly 1200 COVID-19 cases were announced in Michigan Thursday, including 73 deaths.

In St. Clair County, 22 new cases were announced Thursday bringing the total to 448 people county-wide. 341 of those individuals are reported to have recovered. No new deaths were reported in St. Clair County Thursday. Cases and deaths held steady in Sanilac County Thursday, with 38 positive people and 5 fatalities. Lapeer County reporting one new case Thursday, now with 176 positive people and deaths were unchanged at 30.
