Michigan won its first game with Juwon Howard as head coach, opening the college basketball season with a 79-71 win over Appalachian State on Tuesday. Eli Brooks scored 24 for the Wolverines, while Jon Teske added 17 points and 13 rebounds, and Isaiah Livers added 14 points. Michigan will host Creighton next Tuesday.
